1-30-14

Today's conversation was very short because my phone only had 1% power left when Daddy called. But here is what I know. They taught Foundations today. Then Larry and Renatus taught about Prosperity Theology. I think that is it. They teach more tomorrow. Lordship Salvation and something else I can't remember at the moment. I think I will blame the baby that I can't remember.
Speaking of remembering, I forgot to tell you yesterday that the church they taught in an hour away from Eldoret was an established church. It even has a concrete floor. But throughout the day of teaching the chickens came in and out.  Thanks for your prayers. Keep them going!

1-29-14

The dynamic duo taught a Foundations class in a town about an hour from Eldoret today. Daddy knew all of the translators from previous trips. Renatus came from Tanzania to participate and help out.
They went to Peter's house.  This is pretty cool! If I understood this right, Peter and his wife have a new baby. She is only three weeks old. They named her Barbara! Mom and Peter never met, but Peter would call regularly to pray with Mom throughout her battle. Well, that made it rain a little in my eyes, as Daddy would say.

1-28-14

Ishmael drove the dynamic duo to the border between Uganda and Kenya. They said goodbye and picked up their bags. They walked through several gates and a couple buildings. Peter was waiting for them on the Kenya side. So now they have made it to Eldoret and are ready to teach pastors there. They do thank you for your prayers and ask you to keep praying!

1-27-14

The Bob and Larry super duo spent the day at John's church and orphanage. The town is on the shores of Lake Victoria, near a fish hatchery that the US government built. Keep praying!
Here on our side of the world, we went to the doctor. Excellent news! The possible concerns we had been watching for since the last appt. were all resolved. The baby's measurements all look good and my blood pressure is good. Left the office feeling lighter with relief even though this baby is now almost five pounds. We thank you for the prayers, too!

1-25-14

So today the Larry and Bob team went to Ishmael's church, orphanage and school. At the church they held a graduation ceremony for a Foundations class. He told me all about the school. The classrooms were four brick walls, a dirt floor and a chalkboard. He took pictures so I can see what they were learning. He said there were 30 kids in a class from ages 3-16. I wonder if the school is mostly kids from the orphanage or not. Maybe I will remember to ask. Then again the baby helps me forget random things these days.
Special instructions to include this tonight. Remember Sunday is coming!

1-24-14

Update today is they had a long hard drive across Uganda today. Mostly dirt roads. Daddy sounded pretty tired. Of course, that could be because it was something like three in the morning. They did a graduation ceremony for a Foundations class when they arrived to Jinja. Tomorrow they will do another graduation for a class at another church. The hotel they are staying at is on the shores of the Nile. Tomorrow they will also go to Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile. He says thanks for the prayers! They are working!

1-23-14

Oops! I fell asleep before doing this so it is early morning. The phone just rang that school is canceled because of sub freezing temperatures. So after I give you this update, I will go back to bed for a little while.
Daddy called yesterday during class. Oops! He got the times mixed up. So he called again later. Maybe that is because it was 2:00 am his time when I talked to him.  First conference done. They taught about 150 pastors and church leaders from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda. He told me a cute story in which this man introduced his wife. So the wife handed Daddy her baby and proceeded to speak for thirty minutes. So the baby magnet is working!
When they got up this morning, they were headed to eastern Uganda. He said it would be a long day of travel. They have a graduation tonight, small conference Saturday, church on Sunday, and maybe visit an orphanage on Monday. He told me more than once that they are not eating in restaurants while there. Somebody's wife, I think Ishmael, is cooking for them. He said they would be having real Ugandan food.
He wanted to make sure I was posting on his blog, since he has been unable to. We just won't tell him I was late with this one.  Heehee

1-22-14

Got a text this afternoon that said "Long day done. Having trouble with my internet connection."
So it looks like you all are stuck with me for now.  Heehee
Judging from the excitement in his voice when he called last, I am quite sure that it was a long but productive day. I am sure some of his excitement comes from the excitement that students have at these conferences. Keep teaching. Nobody needs to rest. Keep teaching. They are learning absolutely everything they can about God and His word. Keep teaching. Soaking up teaching like a sponge. Keep teaching.
Pray that Daddy and Larry do get the rest they need. And that God gives the words to teach.
On a side note, we went to our childbirth class where we have been learning tons! This week we had a tour. So now we have a better idea of exactly where we will deliver this boy in about two months time. Pray for that too. Now I must go read a Bible story to my belly!

1-21-14

Daddy called from Uganda this afternoon. They arrived safely to Kampala. He sounded very excited to be there and ready to go. Except for it was 1:30 am there and they had just gotten to the hotel. Must be up at 5:00 ready to head to western Uganda for the first pastor's conference.
Tomorrow is Larry's birthday. Wishing him an awesome African birthday!

1-20-14

I took Daddy to the airport this morning. He left me in charge of his blog. Heehee
He flew from here to Atlanta where he met up with Larry Hoffman. So now there are two bald white guys on their way to teach pastors in Africa. Right now, they should be somewhere over the Atlantic. They arrive in Amsterdam sometime tomorrow my time. Then catch the flight to Uganda by way of Rwanda. Pray for safe travels.  Pray for God's hand and words as they spread the Gospel and teach God's word.

1-19-14

Went to church. The youth gave a presentation of their extreme weekend in Branson. Wow our youth are awesome. Tears were in my eyes. They are doing some neat thing for The Lord.

Then the church asked me to come up and they prayed for pastor Hofmann and I. That we would be used by The Lord to reach those in Uganda and Kenya

Immediately after church I headed to OKC. Had dinner with leanna brian david and sarah. Always good to do that. Then I came back to the house and repacked  I was given another laptop to take to a person in Uganda so I had to make room for it

Please pray for us while we are in Africa. We will be working with pastors in Uganda until January 28 then move to Kenya to work with pastors there.

I just received word that a cousin Cherri Borgman has been diagnosed with cancer.  The kind she has is not treatable chemo. Pray for her and Danny

Also my good friend jim patrick is having major problems. He recently was medically retired from his job. He has taken a turn for the worse but he is one tough guy. He and wife jana need your prayers

I will be leaving early in the morning. I am hoping that I will be able to continue doing this blog while in Africa. I will be 9 hours ahead of you so the timing may be off. If you don't hear anything from me for a while I will be letting leanna and david know by text of my comings and goings

Went shopping. Received a call that friends Larry and Joanna  were going to be close. So met them for lunch. Had a great time catching up
Then this evening I went to the Methodist church for tummy time. Yep got to eat some good food and spend time with people that I went to church with as a kid.

Wow did you see the moon. It sure is pretty. Great bing thing in the sky. How does it stay up there

Remember Sunday is coming

1-15-14

Worked around the house and got ready for church. Had a deacons meeting then had Awana. Pretty awesome when 50 or of the Awana kids wanted to pray for pastor Larry and I as we go on a mission trip to Africa. They actually got up in front of the church and prayed for both of us. It should be a good trip with all the prayers. Thanks to everyone. My prayer is that God will use pastor Larry and me.

1-14-14

Neat date. Have you looked outside. Wow the moon is beautiful  spent the morning putting soap on all my trees. So far it has kept the deer away from my trees. Also I have the cleanest trees in the county. I don't think there is a prize for that but I still put soap on the trees

This evening went to spent the evening with sonny and judy. This is two times in a row that they both have beat me severely in cards. No need to even count the last hand because of the lopsided score. Oh well enjoyed talking to them.

1-13-14

Wow got lots done today. Rand around and just kept getting things done. Hopefully that will carry over into tomorrow. I want to put soap on all the trees so that it will keep the deer away. I am sure that Elijah will help. He likes to go anywhere I go. He usually sits in the front seat with me.

There were a few ducks on the field but nothing like Sunday. They were just traveling through.

We are having good weather. Hope it continues.

1-12-14

Ok so I made a typing error. Thanks for pointing it out. I will try to remember to proof read each post
Leanna did not sleep well so she did not go to church so brian and I went. He helped me teach the junior high kids. Then in church I had the children's message.   The pastor taught on the parable of the lost son. Actually about the attitude of the son that had stayed home.

After church we had fried chicken and mashed potatoes (comfort food for leanna). Then leanna and brian headed home. It was good to have them. Leanna said this is her last trip until she has a baby. She has 68 days till she is scheduled to have a baby. Which means that I will be a grandpa soon. But who is counting.

1-11-14

The weather was very nice today temperatures in the 50's. This morning brian leanna and I spent just talking. Then two different guys came to the door asking to hunt dicks as they had seen several trying to land on the field behind the house. I had seen and heard several while I had been outside

Then brian washed all the cars. The muddy roads had done a number on all of them so brian used the power washer and washed 5 vehicles.  Thanks brian. Then we were inside getting to go to dinner with my brother when we heard and saw several ducks flying and landing in the corn field behind the house. We watched in amazement as over 3000 were flying to land on the field. With the ice and snow smelting the field looked like a small lake. Well the ducks thought so also. It was fun to watch. Leanna and brian took pictures and movies of the duck show.

Then we had supper with sonny and judy. We found out the Erica's biopsy was successful and that she is doing fine. They kept her in the hospital overnight but was home a little after lunch. Thanks for the prayers. Now we just have to wait on the biopsy reports.

Remember Sunday is coming.

1-10-14

Most of the snow melted. It was around 47 most of the day.

I went to tackle care of the cows for my brother. He and judy went to Kansas City to be with becky and Erica. Erica had a biopsy done on her liver this morning. So the grandparents are spending some time with her and Elena.

I talked to them and also Erica at 6 this evening and she is doing fine. They want her to stay in the hospital overnight so sonny and judy will spend the night with Elena.

Thanks for the prayers for Erica and the family. Iopsy was successful but no results yet

This evening I went to a dinner theater. Independence community college put it on. The name was southern hospitality. The meal was good but the program was great. Very well done. Actors did a great job

When I got home leanna and brian were here. They came up for the weekend. Leanna said this is her last trip until she has a baby. Oh my I am going to be a grandpa. Scary

Keep praying for leanna and the baby

It snowed again this morning. But only enough to have a dusting of snow

So I spent the morning in front of the fireplace. It warmed up but by then I had started putting a puzzle together. It is a 1000 pieces. I bought the puzzle inboston. It is of the revolutionary war. Very informational.

1-8-14

Ok thought that since it was cold here it would be warmer in Dallas.  So I left this morning at 5 to drive to Dallas. It was 30 when I left. Got to Dallas to have lunch with friends and it was 37 and raining. Not a big improvement. It rained on me all the way back home. So had a good visit with friends and a good mean but the weather was not any better. In fact when I got home it was 35 which was warmer than the 32 in Tulsa.

Love global warming. It just gives me goose bumps

I am just glad that God allowed me to have the time to drive to visit friends. Ok I am also glad HE allows me to have friends.

1-7-14

Started packing for my mission trip. Also started preparing lessons in earnest for same trip. Will be ready when the flight takes off. I have a week and a half

It was nice to have the sun out today. It seemed warm at least.

Elijah and I went for a run. Ok he ran I rode the 4 wheeler. We saw 4 deer eating in the back field. Deer are so fun to watch.

1-6-14

So it was cold again. After trying to keep warm I decided that I would just go out and run some errands.  Felt much better. Called david herold and he invited me to lunch. Whew I thought I was going to have to eat my own cooking. Then this afternoon I went to my brothers. Hum just at dinner time. Did have to help fed the cows and cut ice. But I got a free meal out of it.

Leanna had a doctors appointment. They keep monitoring her because she is older and at risk because of her age. Please keep praying for her and the baby boy she carries. They keep checking her blood pressure. It is still very good

1-5-14

Got up this morning to cold weather with a strong north wind. Snow was flying horizontal not down to the ground. Church was canceled. First time in a long time that the church was closed on Sunday. Leanna and I worked on projects then I took her back to Tulsa to meet brian. Enjoyed having leanna here even if it was a short time. But got to eat in Tulsa twice this weekend

Not a lot of snow but just north wind. Saw 4 coyote in the field behind the house looking for something to eat. They just seemed to be enjoying the cold weather.

1-4-14

Woke up this morning and wanted to have a pity party but the phone rang at 6:30 and it was leanna who said that she and brian were driving to Tulsa to meet me for lunch and then she would spend the weekend here and brian would go back home to get some things done. So no time for a party
I drove to Tulsa and went shopping for my grandson to be. Then we had lunch and leanna and I drove back to Altamont. We cleaned out a closet and worked on a kindergartner project for leanna. Oh yeh we semi watched two football games. The chiefs and the eagles both lost. It is just a game.

Also finished getting ready to teach Sunday school tomorrow.

Remember Sunday is coming

It snowed less than an inch. Leanna and brian called to meet me for lunch I joplin so I headed out to go to joplin. Temp as 8. It got up to 10 by the time I got to joplin

Had a good brunch with leanna and brian

They headed on to OKC to meet with human resource at the school district

I did some shopping while in joplin. Tried looking for some items for Sunday school but couldn't find what I wanted.  So I came home. Watching Oklahoma football. Seems like a lot of offense.

Wow a new year.
So as I am writing this it is snowing outside. Good thing it is outside otherwise I would have a roof problem. It was nice out today so I burned some brush piles. It was good to be out in the fresh air.
Pretty laid back day. Did laundry this morning and of course dishes. It seems that if I cook I have to do the dishes. Hum. What a concept.

Hope ever hung had a good start to the new year.
